I might try it again but last time I ended up with Kernal Panics and had to reinstall OS X. I didn't really get rid of my dock, since I do like the eye candy and still use it for a few things. What I did was just have it hide below my screen unless I mouse over it, which is easily changed in System Preferences - Dock. I've never really experienced a problem with quicksilver, it's my favorite app for the Mac just because it removes so many time-wasting mouse clicks.
